2020 Lysaght Watt Trust Art Award

The Lysaght Watt Gallery has successfully run the annual Lysaght Watt Trust Art Award since 2013. We have recently completed a review of our popular competition, and as a result we have decided to run biennially instead.

The next Award will run 29 June to 25 July 2020 so we think this will allow artists plenty of time to get their creative juices flowing!

In 2018 we announced the theme will be Time Out for the next Award. Applications are now OPEN. Planning for this event is well underway and we look forward to seeing your entries.

History

The inaugural Lysaght Watt Trust Art Award was held in 2013 at the Lysaght Watt Gallery in Hawera, South Taranaki.

The major prize of $3000 (sponsored by the Lysaght Watt Trust), as well as several other sponsored prizes, continues to draw entries from artists throughout New Zealand.

A different theme is selected annually, with past themes including Daily life, Yin Yang, Self Portrait and Rising.

An esteemed member of the New Zealand Art community is invited each year to judge the entries and select the overall winner. They also choose the winners of the individual prize categories, including 3D, 2D and Local Artist. A gala evening is held at the Lysaght Watt Gallery to announce the winners and open the exhibition. The People’s Choice Award is given to the artwork with the most votes from the public by the end of the show.
